Emergency Appeal for Refugees

Support life-saving programs in Asia
arrowVIEW MORE
In January 2025, the US government ordered a freeze on foreign assistance. As a result, humanitarian programs that sustain some of the world’s most vulnerable and at-risk communities have been thrown into deep uncertainty. Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is impacted with an annual funding cut of over USD $18 million for projects in 9 countries, including Thailand and India.

Terminating these essential and life-saving services will have wide-ranging consequences, for refugees we serve and for humanity as a whole. In many cases, assistance provided by organizations like JRS are critical lifelines for refugees, who have already lost so much. They need access to proper nutrition, safe shelters, education, healthcare and essential services.

Standing with Refugees

For the past 45 years, JRS has worked to uphold our founding principles of compassion, solidarity and accompaniment. In this spirit, our teams around the world remain committed to standing in dignity with the forcibly displaced.

With the current funding crisis, our teams on the ground are confronted by difficult decisions:

🔹 Do we cover rent for unaccompanied refugee minors in Thailand or prioritise supplementary food aid for a refugee family?

🔹 How do we choose which of the most vulnerable to assist when faced with waves of new arrivals who are desperately in need?

These are not just hypothetical choices—these are life-and-death realities.

Your contribution makes a Difference!

Through this fund-raising campaign, JRS Singapore, in collaboration with CHARIS, is appealing for funds to provide urgent aid for refugees in our region.

In Thailand, the Urban Refugee Project serves 12,000 asylum-seekers and refugees by providing vital financial assistance, safe shelters, mental health and psychosocial services. SGD $120,000 is urgently needed to maintain essential support for 3 months.

In India, SGD $35,000 is crucial for 3 months of comprehensive lifesaving intervention to serve 15,800 vulnerable refugees. JRS supports refugees with basic food rations, hygiene and dignity kits for women, educational support for refugee children, language training for adults, mental health and psychosocial support as well as medical care and assistive equipment for special needs adults and children.

JRS is committed to accompanying refugees on their difficult journeys. All funds raised beyond these amounts will mean that critical support can be extended beyond the 3 month duration.

Together, we can ensure that no one is abandoned in their time of greatest hardship.

We are deeply grateful for all donations - these go a long way to help those in need.

About Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)

arrowVIEW MORE

Since its founding in 1980, the Jesuit Refugee Service has been steadfast in its commitment to accompany, serve, and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons, that they may heal, learn, and determine their own future.

Today, JRS operates in 58 countries, providing essential aid and services to those most in need, while seeking to strengthen resilience, self-reliance and agency among the people we serve. At the core of our mission is a deep commitment to accompany people on their journeys, remaining close to the communities and individuals forced to flee, particularly the most vulnerable and marginalised. This commitment is grounded in humanitarian principles and Catholic social teaching, which emphasises the dignity of every person, regardless of nationality or status.
