HIGHLIGHTS

Increase in Appeal Target

CHARIS has increased the appeal target from SGD 100,000 to SGD 300,000 in anticipation of the increasing needs and recovery effort on the ground.

HIGHLIGHTS

Updates - 14 Feb 2023

CHARIS would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Catholic community in Singapore for your generous contributions. CHARIS is working closely with Caritas Internationalis to coordinate our responses to those affected by this earthquake. All who wish to support this cause may continue to do so through this campaign, donations that exceed the disbursements for this specific humanitarian/disaster response, any surplus or unspent money will be used for other overseas humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts.

HIGHLIGHTS

Updates - 21 February 2023

CHARIS has committed SGD 100,000 as Rapid Response for humanitarian support to the people in Turkey through Caritas Internationalis. The funds will be used to provide temporary shelter, food, basic hygiene products, winterization supplies, and other needs that may emerge for people who have lost their homes as a result of the earthquake.

HIGHLIGHTS

Updates – 5 April 2023

A Caritas Emergency Response Support Team was formed and conducted a field assessment between 23rd and 31st March in Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, and Adyaman to further assess priority needs and identify gaps where intervention is required in the medium and long term. Together with various Caritas organisations globally, CHARIS pledged over EUR 1.8 million, and part of the funds were utilised to procure food kits (including special meals for Ramadan), diapers, hygiene kits, and clothing vouchers on 16th March.

HIGHLIGHTS

Updates – 4 August 2023

CHARIS has disbursed the remaining funds of SGD 235,963 to Caritas Turkey on 4 July 2023. The funds will be used to enable Caritas Turkey’s continuous effort to provide necessities for those who are affected by the earthquake, including food security and nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as shelter and settlement. Please join us in prayer for those who are afflicted, that they are able to receive the help they need and get back to their normal lives as soon as possible.

The Worst Earthquake in Turkey this Century

A 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Pazarck district of Kahramanmaraş in southeast Turkey on 6 February 2023 at 4.17 am. It severely impacts the majority of Turkey and northern Syria, causing more than 9,000 deaths as of 8 February 2023. Because of the region's sub-freezing temperatures, many families who lost their homes are sleeping on the streets and using any necessary means to stay warm.

Let us respond in love to our brothers and sisters who are affected by the earthquake. We welcome Catholics in Singapore who desire to contribute by joining us in prayer for all who are suffering or by giving in any way.
